Colonial Heights -
The Derby varsity men, behind the hot shooting of Sean Michaelson and Brandon Swallow raced to a 17-7 first quarter lead in route to a 70-53 victory over St. John's Military School at Colonial Heights on Tuesday night. The duo combined for 48 points on a night that saw the Invasion shoot a season best 55% from the field including 5 of 8 from 3 point range.
The visitors from Salina came out firing in the 3rd quarter and narrowed the Derby lead to 6 at 38-32 but the relentless pace set by Derby guards Kyle Barger and Bryce Atherton fueled a 13 to 4 run to end the quarter and St. John's never recovered.
In the JV game, Blake Hager scored a career high 26 points on 12 of 16 shooting to lead the Invasion to a 50 to 18 victory over the St. Johns JV. Hager also pulled down 8 rebounds as the Invasion JV improved to 5-1 on the season.
The Invasion will be back in action on Friday night December 7th as they travel south to take on Ark City Christian. Then on Tuesday December 11th, the Invasion men and women will host Hamilton at Colonial Heights beginning at 6pm. Come out and support your Derby Invasion!!!
