Invasion men suffer first loss

The Derby men made numerous key plays down the stretch on Saturday but free throw shooting was as cold as the Kansas wind and the Invasion came up just short, losing 58-55 to the visiting Olathe Christian Warriors. And while struggling at the charity stripe, the Invasion served notice that they would not go quietly in any game. The Warriors were paced by seven first half "3" pointers by D.J. Johnson. Even so, Derby hung tough and continued to execute on offense and trailed only 34-28 at the half.
Derby's patience paid off in the second half as the Invasion worked for layups and short shots and took the lead from the Warriors with 1 minute to play in the fourth quarter. However, the Warriors converted 5 of 6 free throws to regain the lead by 3 with 16 seconds remaining. Derby then got several good looks from 3 point range but came up short in the end.
The Invasion were led by Sean Michaelson's 21 points and 9 rebounds. Brandon Swallow added 15 & 6 and Josh May controlled the middle with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks.
In the JV game, the Derby men used balanced scoring and tough rebounding to come from behind and defeat the Warriors JV by the score of 43-38. The Invasion were led by Hunter Davis with 12 points and Isaac Thonen with 9. Cleaning up the glass were Travis Barker and Blake Hager with 10 rebounds each.
The Derby Invasion Varsity and JV men will be back in action on Tuesday December 4th when they host St. John's Military Academy at Colonial Heights in Wichita beginning at 5:30pm. DHAA welcomes you to come out and support the Invasion!
