Church at the Cross -
Barger, Michalson and May come up big in 4th quarter, lead Invasion to victory over Warriors

Kyle Barger, Sean Michaelson and Josh May combined to score the last 16 points for the Derby Invasion Men as they held off a late charge by the Wichita Warriors (WAHAA) to win 65-60 Thursday night at Church at the Cross in Wichita.  This match, at times, resembled a heayweight title fight as the two teams traded leads throughout the evening in a game that was not settled until the final minutes of the 4th quarter.  Ironically, this game also resembled a great chess match as coaches Brian Swallow and Kenny Collins went deep into their respective benches throughout the game to find just the right combination of players to counter their opponents' game plan.

Michaelson and May led the way for the Invasion with May scoring 20 points to go along with 14 rebounds and 6 blocks.  Michaelson also added 20 points including 6 of 6 from the line.  Barger, "only" scored 6 points in the game but probably sealed the victory for Derby.  With under 2 minutes to play and the Invasion clinging to a one point lead, he converted both ends of a 1 and 1 and then immediately made a steal in the front court resulting in a breakaway layup to give Derby a lead it would not give back.

In winning their 17th consecutive game, Coach Swallow continued to get key minutes from all 10 players.  Guards Bryce and Prestyn Atherton combined to score 9 points but also disrupted play all night with aggressive defense.  And Hunter Davis came off the bench to pull down 4 critical rebounds and collected a key steal in the second quarter in relief of post players David Richardson and Brandon Swallow who were both forced to the bench with early foul trouble.  These and many other contributions countered the Warriors Josh Robinson and Zach Whitley who both scored 20 points to lead WAHAA.
