Invasion Men get Hot on a Cold night in Hutch to defeat Cougars 64-42

The Derby Varsity men opened up with full court pressure and raced to a 18-2 first quarter lead in route to a 64-42 victory over Hutch Central Christian (HCC) on Tuesday night in Hutchinson. Sean Michaelson led the way with 16 points including 4 baskets from 3 point range. For the evening, Derby was 6 of 10 beyond the arch which opened up the inside game as Josh May and David Richardson both had 11 points and Brandon Swallow added 9 from the paint.

The Cougars settled in after the 1^st quarter and scored 17 in the 2^nd frame paced by guard Caleb Green who led all scorers with 19 points. Green also made 5 consecutive free throws at the end of the 3^rd and beginning of the 4^th quarters to draw the Cougars to within 46-34 but that was as close as HCC would get as Derby’s pressure defense contested every pass and every shot which wore down the Cougars and created numerous scoring opportunities for the Invasion. With the win, Derby moves to 15-2 on the season including 13 consecutive wins as they prepare to host the KC Metro Mavs on Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Derby. This will also be Senior Day so we hope you’ll come out to support our seniors. Go Invasion!
