Invasion slam door shut on Sabres
The Derby
Invasion Men awoke after a sluggish start to defeat the Reno County Sabres 80-38 Friday night at Calvary Baptist in Derby. After scoring only a dozen points in the first quarter, senior Brandon Swallow threw down a powerful dunk that brought the crowd to it's feet and the Invasion to life. The Derby men went on to score 37 in the 2nd quarter in route to a 49-19 half time lead.
The 3rd and 4th quarters saw more of the same as the Invasion increased it's lead with Coach Brian Swallow continually substituting fresh players that kept the pressure on the young Sabre squad. Derby was led by Josh May who had a big night with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Tommy Leach came off the bench to score 14 points and Prestyn Atherton chipped in 11 points as all ten players scored on this night. The Invasion Men are back in action Tuesday night January 13 taking on the Wichita Warriors at Calvary
In Women's action,
the Lady Invasion broke open a close game in the fourth quarter to earn a 45-30 win over the Lady Sabres. The teams played almost even thru the first 3 quarters and then the Sabres scored a duece to open the 4th quarter to pull within two at 28-26. Then Derby, led by senior Debbie King, went to work and put on a 17-2 run to close out the game. King led all scorers with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Leah Pauli also had a fine game finishing with 15 points. The Lady Invasion are back in action at home Tuesday against the WAHAA Lady Warriors.
