Invasion men rally late but fall short in KCAA consolation

The scoreboard read "Warriors 36, Invasion 32" but scoreboards never tell the full story of a game or a season. The Derby men, fresh off a heartbreaking OT loss to eventual KCAA champion Olathe, took 3 full quarters to shake off that loss and play Invasion basketball. Down 11 in the fourth quarter, Sean Michaelson provided the spark needed to ignite a furious rally that brought the Derby men to the brink of tying the game but key free throws down the stretch by the Warriors sealed the victory for WAHAA.
Thus, the Invasion men earned 4th place in the KCAA tournament which is their highest finish in the 3 years that Derby has participated in the KCAA Division 2. Sean Michaelson led Derby with 16 points. Kyle Barger, Josh May and Bryce Atherton added 4 points each. Josh May also earned KCAA All tournament honors.
Up next for the 17-7 Derby Men will be the Gateway Regional Homeschool tournmant in Lebanon, Missouri. Both Mens and Womens Invasion teams will participate in the tournament so we hope to see you there! GO INVASION !!
