In a game that could not be settled in the regulation 32 minutes, the Olathe Warriors rallied past the Derby Men 52-50 in overtime to reach the finals of the KCAA tournament at Immanuel Baptist. The Invasion were up 11 to start the 4th quarter but two consecutive 3 pointers ignited the Olathe rally that culminated with a game tying basket at the buzzer. Then an early 3 point basket in overtime put Olathe ahead to stay.
The Derby Men were led by Josh May who registered another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sean Michaelson also scored in double figures with 12. Kyle Barger added 8 and Thomas Leach chipped in 7 as the Invasion continued to show exceptional balance and team play. And while many filed out of the Immanuel rec center wondering what might have been, this young team from Derby clearly has a bright future ahead of them.
Tomorrow, Derby plays the Wichita Warriors at 2:30 in the consolation game. The game will be the 3rd meeting of the season with each team winning a close game. Everyone is encouraged to come on out and enjoy some awesome basketball !
