The Derby men outscored St. Mary's 18-7 in the first quarter in route to a 64-45 victory in the first round of the KCAA tournament at Immanuel Baptist in Wichita. The evening belonged to Kyle Barger as the sophomore guard was virtually unstoppable in scoring a career high 21 points. Very balanced scoring followed Barger as Sean Michaelson added 10, Josh May 8, and Bryce Atherton 6. May led all rebounders with 5 and Atherton led the team with 5 assists. In all, 10 Invasion players scored on this night and the team also registered 10 steals.
With the win, the Invasion men move to 17-5 on the season and reach the semi finals of the KCAA Division 2 tournament for the first time. On Friday, Derby will face the #2 seeded Olathe Christian Warriors at 7:30pm at Immanuel. This will be the second meeting between the 2 clubs as the Warriors won a very close contest back in December. Everyone is invited to come out and support the men in black (and gold)! :)
